Annihilation (2016)
The urban transformation project, which is also called gentrification, is a trend in urban neighborhoods, which results in increased property values and the displacing of lower-income families and small businesses. I photographed the inside of buildings to show the new living spaces who are being created with gentrified concretes. Gentrification - with it's more innocent meaning ''the urban transformation project'' which is a part of the irresistible phase of capitalism that we are currently on, does not only aim to change our buildings visibly, but also it's alienating them. Most of the neighborhood residents are being forced to leave their homes and the atmosphere where they grew up. It will clash, while trying to bear the traces. The past will have to live only in pictures and memories. Is the gentrification a form that standardizing our lives and vitiating the history and cultures?
